About Me

Boulder, Colorado, United States
Hey! I hope yall are following me in the Exploration series of the Modern Library. I was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on April 12, 1954. I graduated from Hampshire College, and two years later, I married my beautiful wife, Linda Moore. I'm very enthusiastic about life. My kids are the center of it. I have brown hair with hazel eyes although they seem to change. I am an avid climber, but my 1996 climb on Mt. Everest scared me. Losing my two guides due to death captavated me. I had to stay strong and collected if I wanted to live, so that's exactly what I did. This climb was one of my last.

1996 Mt. Everest Climb...Why?

As you know by now, the death-ridden 1996 Mt. Everest expedition is no secret. But what y'all might be wondering is why? Why did I have to take the challenge of summiting the deadliest mountain on Earth? Simply put, it was a childhood dream, and I wanted a firsthand account of what it's like. The feedback from my article overwhelmed my mailbox with letters from followers wanting to know the unanswered questions. The feedback re-enforced my gut to write "Into Thin Air," and answer questions like "why wasn't the turn around time enforced?" and "why did it take Hall, the experienced guide, so long to reach the top, and ignore his own turn around time?". So as you all know by now, I put pen to paper, and wrote the horrific details of my expedition.
